Litter and a Mouthful of Rice

Litter and a Mouthful of Rice

A crow

perches on a litter bin

in front of my house

rummages about the stale food

that I threw away last night

the sustenance it desires

A man

whose face is dark and haggard

stops before my house

rummages through the litter

that I threw away last night

looking for paper, bottles, tins and iron rods

to be sold later

for just a few cents

Whenever

I dump this litter

it becomes a source of sustenance

for the crow and the man

who live only

to look for a mouthful of rice

Wind

relay this question of mine

to mister minister

'What fate has befallen

my nation?'
